A man who booked a Hello cab A man on his way to a railway station in Gujarat was surprised to find a female driver. He shared his inspiring story on Facebook, which has garnered numerous likes and comments on social media. In his post, Okas Desai described his experience of booking a cab in the western state and coming across a female driver for the first time. Desai noted that while he had seen women driving rickshaws, this was the first time he had driven a cab with a female driver. Curious, he asked the woman about her choice to drive, and was moved to tears by her response.
Desai posted a picture of the cab driver with the caption, “Today in Ahmedabad, I booked an Ola cab to reach the railway station. The confirmation message mentioned the driver’s name as Archna Patil. This is Archna, an extraordinary woman. While driving an Ola cab may not seem extraordinary, I was thrilled to see her driving with such ease and efficiency.”
She continued, “Driving to Ahmedabad railway station through the old city and navigating through heavy and disciplined traffic is always a challenge. I was particularly impressed as it was my first experience with a female driver in Ola or Uber. In my city Surat, I have seen female auto drivers but I had never used the services of a female driver in a cab. You may think it is not worth mentioning but her story is.”
Desai explained that Archna’s husband, who was a taxi driver, had health problems and was no longer able to work, leaving them in financial difficulties. To support her family, Archna started working for Ola. She learned to drive in six months and got her license.
“I don’t want to single this out as an example of women empowerment or as proof of social change. I met a spirited person who didn’t see her misfortune as a defeat. I told her I had saved her number. Life is never easy for anyone,” Desai wrote.
The post, shared earlier this week, has since received more than 19,000 likes and numerous comments.
Responding to the post, one person commented: “Hats off to you ma’am! Your spirit and resilience are truly extraordinary.”
Another user said: “She is a brave woman. Despite her problems, she has an infectious smile. This will encourage other women to face challenges. It is very thoughtful of you to bring her story to light.”
A third user commented: “I always appreciate people who work hard and honestly. I saw pink cars ferrying people at the Sardar Patel statue in Baroda and I was happy to see women working with confidence. We should always encourage them.”
