New releases in theaters this week: Alien Romulus, Blink Twice, The Crow, Footage and more movies

Sunday is here and with it our list of movies that are releasing in theatres this week. There will be no Hindi releases on August 23 due to Stree 2, Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein, but the theatres have brought you English, Tamil and Malayalam films to keep you all entertained. Extraterrestrial: Romulus

The seventh installment in the Alien franchise is a science fiction horror film set in a standalone setting between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. The film follows a group of young space colonists who, while searching an abandoned space station, come face to face with a xenomorph. The film is scheduled for release on August 23.

Blink twice

This is a psychological thriller film directed by Zoë Kravitz. The film stars Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Christian Slater, and Simon Rex. The story follows a waitress who falls in love with a billionaire tech mogul and travels with him to his private island for a lavish party. However, things start to go wrong after her friend goes missing. The film will be released in theaters on August 23.

The Raven

This is a gothic superhero film in which Eric/The Crow, a murdered musician, is resurrected to avenge the deaths of himself and his fiancée (played by FKA Twigs). Starring Bill Skarsgård, it is the fifth film in the franchise, and the second, following the 1994 film, to directly adapt the 1989 comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr. The film is set for release on August 23.

The Forge

The film serves as a spin-off of War Room, and is the ninth film from the Kendrick brothers and the sixth through their subsidiary, Kendrick Brothers Productions. The film stars Cameron Arnett, Priscilla Shirer, and Aspen Kennedy. It tells the story of Isaiah Wright, a 19-year-old who lives for basketball and video games. A year after finishing high school, he still has no job and no plans for his future. However, one day he gets a push to start making better choices in life. The film is set to be released on August 23.

Friend

A seemingly normal video call between a group of media professional friends takes a terrifying turn when a stranger infiltrates the session. This mysterious figure holds a dark secret about them, plunging the group into a high-stakes game with deadly consequences. The Tamil drama is set to hit theatres on August 23.

Directed by Saiju Sreedharan, the film stars Manju Warrier, Gayathri Ashok and Vishak Nair. The film is a found footage film, a format that presents the narrative through video recordings created by the characters themselves. The Malaysian thriller will hit theatres on August 23.
