Amid massive outrage over sexual assault allegations against some prominent actors and directors in Malayalam film industrylegendary Actor Mammootty He said there was “no centre of power” in Malaysian cinema and called on all film industry associations to join hands and implement the recommendations of the Hema Committee report. “Cinema is not an area where such things can exist,” he said.
“The full version of the Justice Hema Committee report is before the court. Let the police investigate honestly. Let the court decide the punishments,” he said breaking silence on the issue.

In a statement on Facebook, Mammootty also clarified that he waited so long because he wanted the organisation to react first to the sexual harassment charges.
“The procedure is that the organisation and its leaders are the first to react. I think I should give my opinion as a member only after these responses, that is why I have waited so long,” he said.
Multiple FIRs have been registered against many prominent personalities in Malaysian cinema, including actor Jayasurya and CPI(M) MP and actor Mukesh, following allegations of sexual harassment against several directors and actors in the wake of revelations in the Justice K Hema Committee report.
This morning, Jayasurya, who has two sexual assault cases registered against him, shared an emotional message as he issued a public statement denying the charges against him. The actor said he will pursue the case through legal channels. “It has devastated me, my family and everyone who has loved me,” said Jayasurya, 46.
Another prominent actor, Siddique, has also denied the rape allegations levelled by an actress. He had also resigned as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) following the allegations against him.
Filmmaker Ranjith, another accused, has resigned from his post as president of the state-run Chalachitra Academy in Kerala.
The Justice Hema Committee was constituted by the Kerala government after the actress’s assault case in 2017, and its report revealed instances of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry.
Amid allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation that surfaced against several actors and directors, the state government announced on August 25 the creation of a seven-member special investigation team to probe them. Subsequently, more allegations surfaced.
