How Rani Karnavati became Humayun’s sister

The name of Queen Karnavati of Mewar is recorded in history. After the death of her husband Maharana Sanga in the year 1533 AD, Rani Karnavati took over the rule of the state. At that time, the ruler of Gujarat, Bahadur Shah, attacked Mewar. Seeing the situation getting worse, Queen Karnavati sent Rakhi with a treaty proposal to the Mughal Emperor Humayun for help. On accepting the Rakhi and Karnavati’s treaty proposal, Humayun granted her the status of his sister. However, Humayun’s army could not reach Mewar in time and in 1534 AD, Queen Karnavati along with thousands of Rajput women interned Jauhar.

Story of Lord Vishnu and King Bali

According to Bhagwat Purana and Vishnu Purana, when Lord Vishnu defeated King Bali and won all the three worlds. Then King Bali accepted the promise of Shri Hari that he would stay only at the residence of King Bali. Goddess Lakshmi did not like this. In order to bring Lord Vishnu back to Vaikuntha, Goddess Lakshmi took the form of an old woman and went to King Bali and tied Rakhi to him. In this way, Goddess Lakshmi made King Bali her brother and convinced him to accept Lord Vishnu. After this incident, the holy festival of Rakshabandhan started to be celebrated.
