The IMD became a member of the World Meteorological Organization after independence on April 27, 1949. The agency has gained prominence due to the importance of monsoon rains in Indian agriculture. It plays an important role in preparing the annual monsoon forecast as well as monitoring the progress of the monsoon in India in each season.
How to become a meteorologist?
