Aanya Parashar’s weight loss journey has been full of ups and downs. At the age of 15 she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, which made it even more difficult for her to lose weight. “I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 15 and my doctor simply told me to lose weight, even though I was never overweight in the first place. Back then, the only way I knew to lose weight was to exercise, so that’s what I did. But it did not help to improve my condition, although I managed to lose 3-4 kg. For the next few years I managed to stay afloat by exercising too much,” he said.

Consistency is the key to losing weight, but staying consistent is not always possible. Aanya took a break in 2018 for her board exams, but it started taking a toll on her health. Due to stress eating and lack of exercise, he gained 15 kg and reached his maximum weight at around 70 kg. This was a turning point in his life and he decided to take charge of it. “I started exercising again, but this time, no matter how hard I worked, I couldn’t get back into shape properly. In 2019, I discovered knowledge about nutrition and the role it plays in weight loss, something I never really knew. I started eating properly instead of just eating less. With proper nutrition and moderate strength training, I managed to lose 20 kg in a year,” he said.

The biggest challenges we face during the weight loss transformation journey

Aanya struggled to lose weight due to PCOS. He tried everything possible but nothing worked. Along with PCOS, she also had to deal with severe body dysmorphia and gut health-related issues that further worsened her transformation.

How did you stay motivated during your weight loss journey?

Aanya shares that her ultimate goal was her only motivation to undertake this journey. “Honestly, there is no motivation. The end goal should be your only motivation. And once you start seeing the results of your hard work, that’s all the motivation you need,” he said.

Can you tell us about your diet and exercise regimen during your transformation?

To lose weight, Aanya added a lot of fiber to her diet to stay full. “I followed a low-fat, high-fiber diet with moderate protein and complex carbohydrates since my cholesterol levels were high and I needed that fiber to keep me full. Additionally, I lift 4 to 5 days a week with minimal cardio,” he shares.

How did you deal with setbacks?

Aanya’s mantra was: Never give up. This approach helped her defy all odds and emerge victorious. “There were many setbacks, it was a very long journey. Getting my period regularly was a victory in itself. I always knew in my heart what I should be and I never gave up on my dream of seeing myself as a strong, independent and healthy woman,” she shares.

What advice do you have for others looking to begin a similar transformation journey?

“My biggest mistake was not understanding the role of nutrition in weight loss and overall health and that is why it took me so long to understand the right approach to losing weight. So my advice would be to tell them that it’s not just about the calories. “Nutrition is the biggest contributing factor in deciding long-term success or failure in your weight loss journey,” he shares.

How has your life changed since achieving your weight loss goals?

The weight loss transformation not only transforms your appearance but also your way of thinking. After achieving her weight loss goals, everything has changed for Aanya. “Everything has changed, from the way I live, the way I eat, to how I view food and how I view myself as an individual. I have started to respect myself and my body more, and people have started to respect me more for my achievements. I see food as nutritious fuel for my body rather than a source of happiness. It has also helped me increase my confidence levels. He made me believe that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. And every day of my life I am living 15-year-old Aanya’s dream life,” she shares.
