‘Too good to hire?’ : Google Techie Rejection Experience Goes Viral, Internet Reacts

Viral Video: A Google software engineer is gone viral after sharing an unusual job application rejection letter. Annu Sharma, a Delhi-based employee, posted a screenshot of the response on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that a startup considered her “too good” for the position she applied for. In his post, he expressed disbelief, saying, “I didn’t know they could reject you for being too good.”

In the rejection letter, the recruiter outlined the reasoning behind their decision. “After reviewing your resume, we realized that your qualifications significantly exceed the requirements of the position. Our experience indicates that candidates with higher qualifications often find the job unsatisfactory and tend to leave shortly after joining,” it reads.

Sharma shared the post just a day ago. Since then it has accumulated more than 55,000 views. Her unusual story of rejection resonated with many others.

Reacting to the post, one user wrote: “I was recently rejected, not because I was more qualified but because I was from a higher-ranking university. I told them I wouldn’t leave, but they were hell-bent.”

“I’ve been told in interviews three times that I’m too qualified and they think I’ll leave their company in a few months,” another shared.

“I personally know the case of someone who came to do a master’s degree after working for 10 years. He applied for an entry-level position through campus recruitment (standard process). He was rejected for the reason stated above, but was asked to apply for a Mr. Development Position (and I got the job),” a third user commented.
