The V8 car will compete in a racing championship in 2026
The Japanese manufacturer known for its reliable cars seems to be planning to create a more powerful version of the Toyota SupraThis version of the car will come with a massive 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine and will be used under the bonnet of a car designed to compete in the Repco Supercars Championship in 2026. This is a significant development as it could lead to the creation of a powerful Supra Able to compete with models such as the Ford Mustang, powered by a 5.4-liter engine called the Coyote, and the Chevrolet Camaro, which seeks the power of a 5.7-liter V8 engine.
Background story
He Toyota Supra is, without a doubt, one of the most popular names in the Japanese carmaker’s catalogue. The car gained popularity and legendary status among enthusiasts thanks to its 2JZ inline-six engine, which left plenty of room for tuners to extract more power. To further boost its popularity, the car was featured in the Fast and Furious franchise. To cash in on this popularity, the Japanese giant revived the name, but this time with an engine borrowed from BMW. Now, the outgoing version of the Supra in its track-only GT4 variant uses an inline-six engine, which has its roots in the state of Bavaria.
Now the brand is looking to use the aforementioned V8 for the Supra, which is called the 2UR-GSE at Toyota’s development facility. This is an aluminum unit that has been the power source for multiple models such as the IS F, GS F, RC F, LC 500, and IS 500 F. Moreover, this power unit also helped a Hilux pickup truck win the Dakar Rally in 2019.

Toyota will enter the racing championship with four cars bearing the GR logo. These cars will compete for the Walkinshaw Andretti United team. It is worth mentioning that the Walkinshaw Automotive Group is already working with Toyota on the conversion of Tundra trucks.
Toyota has a clay model of the upcoming race car along with some renderings that suggest the car will have a massive rear wing. Particular attention has been paid to the exhaust pipes, which are given a chrome treatment and have been placed below the side doors. To match the capabilities of the massive rear wing, the brand has added a front splitter and placed large air intakes in the front bumper.
