Traders protested against removal of encroachment in Sector 21, RMC team returned empty-handed

Rourkela News: Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) team faced strong opposition from local traders while removing encroachment in Sector-21 market on Friday. Along with traders, BJP and BJD leaders reached here and condemned the sudden attempt by RMC to remove encroachment. Due to this protest RMC team had to return empty handed. Also, the encroachment removal work was postponed till September 24. After speaking to the affected traders, it has been decided to take the next step.

BJP-BJD demanded rehabilitation of traders

Rourkela Municipal Corporation has decided to start a drive to remove shops and kiosks built on road drains in Sector-21. For this, RMC team along with police arrived with JCB to remove the shops. Efforts were initiated to remove the roadside shops from Nayabazar Chowk to OMP campus. Local traders including BJP leaders Ranjit Nayak, Prakash Paswan and BJD leader Biren Senapati strongly opposed this action by RMC. In this case, emphasis was laid on removing encroachments after rehabilitating the traders who were making a living by setting up kiosks for 30 years. Following which RMC decided to postpone its encroachment removal drive till September 24.

Lack of basic facilities in Balijodi included in RMC

Balijodi area in south Rourkela was included in the eighth ward of Rourkela Municipal Corporation 10 years ago. Due to which there was joy among the locals. Earlier, people here used to get basic amenities by spending their own money. But even after 10 years, this area has not been developed and basic facilities are still lacking. It is claimed that even after the locals raised their demand to the higher officials of the corporation, the work is progressing at a slow pace. There is a bridge to go from Balijodi to Nayadera. There is a settlement on its left side. During the rainy season all the houses get filled with water. Therefore, the local residents have written a letter to the Corporation Commissioner regarding the construction of a drain from the main road to Arun Jena’s house, but so far no success has been achieved. Due to which anger is being seen among the people of the area.
