Transfer of police officers during Model Code of Conduct in Kashmir raises apprehensions about election process: Aga Ruhullah

“We have written to the ECI about our apprehensions regarding the recent transfer of SSPs in Kashmir when the election process is underway and the MCC is in place,” Ruhullah said, adding, “Our information is that it is being done at the behest of a particular political party, which goes against the promise of ensuring the Free and fair elections.”The ECI, through its order dated August 30, approved the appointment of Mohd Zaid as SSP Baramulla, Ghulam Jeelani Wani as SSP Kupwara, Ifroze Ahmad as SSP Handwara and Imtiyaz Hussain as SSP Srinagar.

“SSP Baramulla was transferred barely ten days after joining the office. What is the intention and reason behind this transfer? If these new officers have been appointed at the behest of a political party, there is a lingering fear that the electoral process is being manipulated,” said Ruhullah.

Our manifesto says that autonomy is the resolution of the Kashmir issue and restoration of Article 370 is a first step in that direction. Through this assembly we will start the struggle to get back what we have lost, be it Article 370 or autonomy,” Ruhullah said. The NC leader further said that J&K will suffer until India and Pakistan do not sit at the table and resolve the Kashmir issue permanently. “Regardless of whether Pakistan is weak or strong, there has to be a dialogue between the two countries for the permanent solution of the Kashmir issue and the people of J&K have to be a part of this process,” Ruhullah said.
