In connection with Rubel’s murder on August 7, Rafiqul’s lawyer Md Rafinur Rahman, represented by advocate Shajib Mahmood Alam, sent a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) via email and registered mail.
The notice referred to ICC rules, which state that a player named in a criminal case cannot participate in the national team.
Among other things, the notice even asked the BCB to bring Shakib back home to help in the investigation of the murder case and added to also inform the ICC.
BCB boss’s response:
The BCB chief acknowledged that they have not received the notification yet but assured that a decision will be taken before the second Test match against Pakistan on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
“Let me talk about Shakib. A case has been filed. We have not received any legal notice yet. An FIR (first information letter) has been filed in the case and then there will be an investigation and from there the case will move in one direction or the other.” Cricbuzz Faruque said this after the meeting with the board directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“Look, we are playing a Test match now and it is very good news that we have played well on the fourth day. Tomorrow is the fifth day, the decisive day of the Test match and I think at this point of time we have not thought about taking a stand. After tomorrow, once the match is over, we will sit and take a decision. At that point, we will also be able to say something about the legal notice as we will have received it by then,” he said.
“Look, the FIR is just the first information letter and as far as I know, they have not filed any charges yet, so before that it is difficult to take a decision. The relationship between BCB and Shakib Al Hasan is like that of a player and an employer as per the contract. After tomorrow, we can think exactly after receiving the legal notice and based on that. I cannot withdraw him from the middle of the Test match,” he said.
“The second Test match will be played on August 30, so there will be a gap between the matches. During this period, we can think about what can be done about it,” he added.
