Author Khanna sparkling I wrote a beautiful and touching birthday note for my son. AravShe wrote, “Happy birthday, Aarav. When I listened to you tell me over and over again how much you craved your independence, it felt like when you finally left my house and entered yours, my lights would automatically turn off and my world would be filled with a bleak darkness. When you came back to visit, I would light numerous diyas and pretend it wasn’t a permanent power cut; that we were simply celebrating Diwali. But I didn’t realise then that someone who lives in your heart never leaves, even when they change longitudes. My world lights up with every phone call, every message, even if it’s dirty laundry.”

What makes her birthday note so relatable to most parents is the fact that many of them experience the same shared emotion as her. empty nest syndrome It’s real and it doesn’t matter how many ways fatherEven if you adopt a positive attitude, the fact is that the desire to be close to your child never goes away. “As a mother, I can totally relate to Twinkle Khanna’s post for her son. It made me remember my daughters who are far away from me chasing their dreams and aspirations. It’s a bittersweet feeling, honestly. There are days when I get overwhelmed with tears when I miss seeing them around me and then when I see them celebrating every milestone, my heart glows with pride,” Parul Shrivastava (55), mother of two daughters.

“I gave my son a hard time before he left for the US to make his mark in his career. I always told him that if he won the scholarship I would let him go and pursue his dreams. I hate to say it but deep down I was scared that he would actually get the scholarship. Well when he did, I felt so proud of him. I put my feelings aside and let it fly away from me. I had seen how much effort he had put in to get that scholarship. It was a tough decision but when I saw how much my son wanted it, I couldn’t help but bid him farewell with a happy smile on my face,” says Anju Mehtani (45), a homemaker and proud mother.

It is always hard for a parent to see their child leave home to build a life of their own. Many times, for some parents, emotions get the better of them and they try hard not to let their children leave them. However, at some point they realize that their children also have a life of their own and have every right to forge their own path. The thought of depriving them of that opportunity scares a parent and that is when most parents, with a heavy heart, learn to let their children go to pursue their dreams. Interestingly, as much as they are bothered by the distance, when their child achieves great or small achievements, parents are the first to proudly announce it to the world.

The only solace that keeps most parents going is knowing that their child is happy somewhere far away, living life to the fullest, learning, growing, pursuing their dreams. Then there are those random calls a child makes to ask for a recipe or ask what to do with the laundry.
