Two wanted terrorists arrested in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, had carried out several grenade attacks.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two terrorists of the Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) from the district, solving multiple cases of grenade attacks in Poonch. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu division Anand Jain said that the arrest of Abdul Aziz and Manwar Hussain from Hari village is a big achievement for the security agencies. On Friday, police along with 37 Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out a joint operation and nabbed Aziz, the ADGP told reporters in Poonch.

Two hand grenades were found on the arrested terrorists. He said another hand grenade was found in his home during the investigation. His accomplice Hussain was also arrested with a pistol, a magazine and nine cartridges. Jain said, ‘Both of them were part of a larger conspiracy and wanted to create an atmosphere of fear and disturb harmony in Poonch district by attacking various places including temples, gurudwaras, military camps and hospitals with grenades.

Both terrorists have relations with Pakistan.

He said the two arrested terrorists have cross-border links and the cases of the five grenade attacks that took place in the district since November last year are now resolved. Jain said, “Destruction of JKGF module is a big success for all security agencies.” He said the two arrested terrorists are being interrogated. Police said that during interrogation, the terrorists said that their handlers sitting across the border had provided them with four consignments of arms and ammunition and cash worth Rs 1.50 lakh.

The terrorists had come with training.

The terrorists revealed that they received training in the use of guns and also practiced aiming by firing some bullets in the forest. According to police, Aziz attacked the Shiva temple in Surankot on November 15 last year, Gurdwara Mahant Sahib in Poonch district on March 26 this year, the army sentry post at Kamsar in Poonch district in June and the CRPF sentry post on August 14. in a grenade attack on the nearby school grounds. Police said Hussain had carried out a grenade attack near the district hospital staff houses on July 18.

The job of these terrorists was to spread terror among the people.

Police said the two terrorists had also pasted anti-national posters at several places in Surankote including Hari, Dhundak, Sanai, Idgah-Hari and other nearby areas. He said these posters were printed at Hussain’s house and pasted in August last year on instructions from his handlers to create fear among people. On September 12, another member of this module, Mohammad Shabbir, a resident of Dariyala, was arrested with a huge cache of explosives, police said. According to the police, Aziz had provided him with explosives.
