Begusarai: Minister of the Union Giriraj Singh He was allegedly attacked by a young man in BiharOn Saturday, during a rally in Begusarai, the accused was beaten up by Singh’s supporters who were present at the venue. He was later arrested by the police. The youth had reportedly come to the Begusari MP’s ‘Janata Darbar’ programme, where Singh was listening to people’s problems, with a request.
When the accused tried to attack Singh, his security guards intervened. According to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, the accused arrived late for his outreach programme and tried to force him to listen to his request. When the MP refused to do so, the accused allegedly attacked him.
“The bearded man dressed as a moulvi came to me with a petition and asked me to look into it. I told him that the Janta Darbar was over and he should have come on time. He then started shouting slogans against me. At one point, it seemed like he would physically attack me,” Singh said, as reported by PTI.
The accused were also said to have shouted slogans against the Union minister. “He was overpowered by the people who had gathered there and then handed over to the police,” the minister added.
The MP later said on his Twitter account that he would not be scared by such attacks on him. “Those who pamper these people by seeing their beards and caps, should see how love jihad and communal tension is being created across the country as well as in Begusarai,” he said.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
