UP teachers recruitment: CM Yogi Adityanath to hold meeting today on Allahabad High Court order

August 18, 2024 09:22 am IST

A division bench of the Allahabad High Court has ordered the state government to issue a fresh merit list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant teachers.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to discuss and take a call on Sunday on his government’s future course of action in the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Division Directive to draw up within three months a new selection list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant professors.

Those familiar with the matter said the state government is studying the high court order and its implications. It is likely to find ways to ensure that the implementation of the high court order does not cause harm to anyone.

Most ministers and senior state government officials were either unavailable or declined to comment on the issue.

However, when Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna was asked to comment on the High Court order, he said, “We are studying the High Court order and the state government will ensure that no injustice is caused to anyone.”

Other people aware of the development confirmed that the prime minister has called a meeting to discuss the issue on Sunday.

A division bench of the Allahabad High Court comprising Justice AR Masoodi and Justice Brij Raj Singh ordered the state government to issue a fresh list while disposing of the 91 special appeals filed in the matter by candidates challenging the March 13, 2023, judgement of the single-judge bench.

The state government, it seems, is left with little choice, including either challenging the high court order or implementing it. The chief minister’s decision to discuss the issue is being seen in the backdrop of the opposition’s allegations that the BJP is against reservations. The state government may not like to send any message that would displease any section of society.
