Uproar following brutality on girls in Badlapur, lathicharge against protesters

Badlapur School Case: After the rape of two school girls in Badlapur, Maharashtra, there is a huge stir in the entire area. Angry parents protested at the local railway station on Tuesday, stopped the train from running and demanded strict action against the accused. Hundreds of parents and local citizens reached the tracks of Badlapur railway station around 8 am and started protesting. Due to which the movement of trains was stopped.

Police attacked protesters

The police had to use lathi-charge to drive out the people protesting on the railway tracks. When the police asked the people to move away from the track, the protesters started pelting stones at the police. After which the police resorted to lathi-charge. After leaving the track, the police informed the Railways. Following which the railway operations were normalised.

What’s the problem?

On August 17, police arrested a school assistant from Badlapur for allegedly sexually harassing two girl students aged three and four. According to the complaint, he sexually assaulted the girls in the school bathroom. The girls told their parents that the employee had touched them inappropriately, following which a complaint was filed and a case was initiated against him. Police said he was later arrested.

Action against director, teacher and assistant

Following the incident, the school management suspended the principal, a teacher and an “assistant”, holding them responsible for the incident. The school management has also apologised for the incident.

IPS officer to investigate Badlapur incident

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that an inquiry has been ordered under the leadership of a woman IPS officer into the incident of alleged misbehaviour with two school girls at Badlapur in Thane district. Fadnavis said the state government has appointed Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Inspector General Aarti Singh to conduct the inquiry. He said our endeavour will be to investigate this incident at the earliest. We want to file the chargesheet in this case at the earliest and take the case to the fast-track court for hearing.

Maharashtra government suspends three police officers

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of three police officials, including a senior police inspector, for alleged dereliction of duty in investigating the sexual exploitation of two schoolgirls at a school in Badlapur amid massive protests.
