Diversity policies have been modified: US companies modify their diversity policies as challenges mount

More U.S. companies are revamping their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs aimed at boosting racial and ethnic representation in the workplace amid mounting pressure from conservative groups.

At least six major U.S. companies, including JPMorgan Chase, changed their DEI policies last year, according to a Reuters review of corporate filings.

Below is a list of companies that have either left the DEI program or made adjustments to some of the policies in 2024:

Starbucks

In March, shareholders of the coffee giant voted in favor of an executive compensation plan that eliminated a bonus tied to DEI goals.

Supply of tractors

In late June, the company announced it would no longer send data to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), which advocates for LGBTQ rights. Tractor Supply also said it would eliminate DEI positions and withdraw its current DEI goals.

Deere

In July, the company said it would not participate in or support parades, festivals or external events that raise social or cultural awareness. The agricultural equipment maker also reaffirmed that the existence of diversity quotas and pronoun identification has never been and is not a company policy.

Harley-Davidson

In August, the motorcycle maker said it would not participate in the HRC survey and had ended its DEI initiatives.

Brown-Forman

Jack Daniel’s maker has said it will ensure executive incentives and employee goals are tied to business performance, end participation in the HRC survey and eliminate its quantitative workforce and supplier diversity targets.

Lowe’s

The home goods chain will no longer participate in HRC surveys and will combine its various business resource groups representing diverse employees into a single umbrella organization. Lowe’s said in August that it would not sponsor or participate in community events such as parades, festivals or fairs.
