IND vs. OFF: As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) draws near, the cricket world is excited with the anticipation of what is considered to be one of the most intense rivalries in the sport, India versus Australia. The series, which is set to begin on November 22, features the top two teams in Test cricket, adding an extra layer of excitement. Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has shared his thoughts on the significance of the rivalry.
“We are actually the number one and number two teams in the world for the last two years. We were together in the last World Test Championship. The rivalry has always been huge. I take it as a sign of respect and I know Indians love to beat Australia in any form of cricket,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by Star Sports.
“The tradition that Australia has had over so many years as one of the dominant teams in world cricket has cemented that reputation,” he added. He emphasised the tradition of excellence that Australia has maintained over the years and which has cemented its reputation as a dominant force in world cricket.
“I think for Indians it has always been a question of beating Australia,” Khawaja said. Khawaja also pointed out that the rise of Indian cricket, particularly through the Indian Premier League (IPL), has added another dimension to this rivalry.
The Indian team’s recent success, which includes two consecutive wins in Australia, has intensified the competition. “More recently, you know, since India’s rise and the IPL and everything else that’s happened, it’s the same thing with Australia against India. And particularly since India beat Australia in Australia the last two times… It means a bit more,” he added.
The second Test, scheduled for December 6-10 at the Adelaide Oval, will feature the exciting day-night format under the stadium lights. Fans will then turn their attention to The Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test, which will be held from December 14-18.
The traditional Boxing Day Test, scheduled for December 26-30 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, will take the series into its penultimate stage. The fifth and final Test, to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7, will serve as the climax of the series and promises a dramatic conclusion to an exciting contest.
