Uttar Pradesh police constable aspirant hangs himself over ‘poor’ performance in exam; probe launched

A 24-year-old man reportedly committed suicide on August 25 in Bareilly. The student hanged himself as he could not score well in the police constable recruitment exam. Faridpur District Police Officer (CO) Gaurav Singh said the student belonged to Saidpur Manjha village of Fatehganj East zone.
His body was recovered from his rented room in Faridpur and no suicide note was found at the spot. The deceased’s father told the police that his son was preparing for the police recruitment exam for the last five years. Police said the student appeared in the UP Police Officer On August 23, 2024, the body was subjected to an examination in Rampur district, which yielded poor results. The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are underway, the officer told PTI.

The UP police constable exam will be held on August 24, 25, 30 and 31, 2024. Over 48 lakh candidates will appear for the exam at designated examination centres across the state. The fresh recruitment exercise is being conducted after the exams, held on February 17 and 18, were cancelled following allegations of a document leak. About 9.5 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the exam on each of the five days, government officials said. The first shift will be from 10 am to 12 pm, while the second will begin at 3 pm and end at 5 pm.
