Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment: Government Van or Unemployment? Over 50 lakh applicants compete for 60,000 police posts in Uttar Pradesh

Call it government jobs craze or unemployment, over 50 lakh youth have applied to be recruited for 60,244 constable posts in the UP Police, marking the highest number of online registrations received by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) since its formation in 2009.

The registration process began on December 27, 2023, and has seen an overwhelming response, reflecting the keen interest among youth to join the police force. Of the total applicants, 15 lakh are women who have applied for the 12,000 reserved seats. This increase in female candidates is a welcome development as it will help in increasing the representation of women in the UP Police. The online registration window closed at 12 midnight on Tuesday and candidates can now make adjustments and fee modifications in their applications till January 20.

With such a large number of applications, the exam will be conducted in two or three shifts to accommodate all candidates. The board had initially anticipated around 320,000 applications and had set up more than 6,500 exam centres, but the final number of applicants far exceeded expectations. This poses a major challenge for the administration in organising the exams on such a large scale.

To ensure a fair and secure examination, the board will use artificial intelligence to identify suspects and prevent any cases of cheating using electronic devices. Besides, meetings will be held with railway and highway officials to take further steps, and the STF and district police have been instructed to remain alert against gangs of troubleshooters. The successful completion of this recruitment process will not only strengthen the police apparatus of the state but will also provide promising career opportunities for the youth of Uttar Pradesh.
