Vijay Varma recalls first conversation with real-life IC814 captain Sharan

Vijay Verma He is all set to enthrall audiences with his portrayal of Captain Devi Sharan in the upcoming Netflix show IC814. Recently, Vijay took to Instagram to share a powerful moment from his journey, offering a glimpse of the real-life hero behind his role.

When I first met the captain, I was taken by his pleasant smile and simplicity. Then I saw a scar on his neck. I asked him about it and he simply and politely told me, “The hijackers have seven guns and they cannot heal the wound.” I was transfixed. He smiled. I knew I was talking to a real-life hero. It was a great honour to be able to portray Captain Devi Sharan on screen. Her efforts to save lives amidst chaos and fear are truly inspiring! A story of resilience and honour, of critical thinking and duty, of patience and hope and above all, of bravery. We salute you, Captain.”

According to the creators, “The six-episode series immerses you in the harrowing reality faced by passengers and crew trapped at 30,000 feet. With every moment filled with tension, the series follows a relentless team in India as they race against time, deciphering the hijackers’ sinister demands and fighting against all odds to ensure the safe return of everyone on board.” The IC-814 was hijacked by five terrorists on December 24, 1999, 40 minutes after taking off from Kathmandu. The plane, carrying around 180 passengers, was held hostage for seven days and flew from Kathmandu to Amritsar and then to Lahore. It refueled in Lahore and left for Dubai. From Dubai, it headed to Taliban-controlled Kandahar, where all passengers were released on December 31, 2000.

It is an adaptation of the book “Flight Into Fear” by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury.

Arvind Swami, he is mirzaPooja Gor, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Anupam Tripathi, Kanwaljeet Singh, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sushant Singh, Aditya Srivastava, Rajeev Thakur and Yashpal Sharma are also part of the show.
