Vinesh Phogat disqualified from Paris Olympics: CAS verdict on joint silver medal announced today

CAS verdict on Vinesh Phogat LIVE UPDATES: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics and her claim for a joint silver medal could come out today. Phogat was disqualified from the 50kg final against American Sarah Hildebrandt after she was found slightly overweight. Vinesh challenged the disqualification, claiming she was within the weight limit for the semi-final against Guzman Lopez, which she won, and so should be awarded a joint silver medal. Guzman Lopez replaced Phogat in the final but suffered a defeat to Sarah, who went on to win the gold medal.

Following his disqualification, Vinesh announced his retirement from professional wrestling. “My courage is broken, I have no more strength. Goodbye wrestling, 2001-2024,” he wrote.
