Vijayawada: Amid heavy rains and flooding in parts of Vijayawada, a video on social media has gone viral. The video shows two men carrying a baby in a box, placed on a sponge board, through deep flood waters in Singh Nagar. Internet users are calling the video “distressing” as many areas are suffering from severe flooding in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The video shows the baby in a yellow plastic box placed on a foam board as the men trudge through muddy waters in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The affected family had to take the baby out of their house when floodwaters turned roads into rivers and inundated their homes in Singh Nagar locality.

Several trains cancelled
As of Tuesday, more than 300 trains have been cancelled in Vijayawada, 170 diverted and 12 partially cancelled due to severe flooding. The floods have claimed 27 lives in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, causing major property damage and forcing thousands of people to move to relief camps. To aid in the rescue efforts, National Disaster Response Force teams and local officials have started dropping food, water and other essential items to those affected in Vijayawada.
According to a statement by the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), ministers, IAS officers and IPS officers are engaged in district-wise relief activities in the centrally located commercial city where several neighbourhoods were inundated.
In the relief efforts, basic needs are being prioritized and 43,417 affected people have been shifted to rehabilitation centres. As many as 48 NDRF and SDRF teams are providing relief and 197 medical camps have been set up.
