Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith He said that his contemporary Virat Kohli He is Australian in thought and action, because of the way he tries to rise to the challenge and break down the opposition. The Australian also revealed that he and Kohli exchange messages often and added that it would be great to face him in the upcoming Australian summer.
Smith and Kohli will be crucial to their respective teams’ performance in the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Both Smith and Kohli are considered part of the Fab 4 and will be keen to score a huge number of runs in the series, especially after Joe Root reached his 34th century last week.
“We get along pretty well and we share messages from time to time. Look, he’s a great guy and a wonderful player. So it’ll be good to play him again this summer,” Smith said while speaking to Star sports.
Kohli has scored 1352 runs in 13 Tests in Australia, at an astonishing average of 54. He has 8848 runs in 113 Tests, with 29 hundreds to his name.
Smith also has a remarkable record against India in Tests. He has scored 2042 runs in 19 Tests against India, at an average of 65.87.
Smith has been playing the role of opener ever since David Warner announced his retirement. He has scored 171 runs in four matches and opened with a half-century to his name.
“I think Virat Kohli is Australian in thought and action. The way he gets involved in everything, the way he faces the challenge and tries to outscore the opposition. I would probably say he is the most Australian Indian player,” Smith said.
“There’s no question of me having to beat him or anything like that. It’s just about going out there and trying to score as many runs as I can and help Australia be successful. That’s what it’s all about,” Smith added.
India will play their first Test against Australia on November 22 in Perth.
