Indian visa applications exceed pre-COVID-19 levels, says VFS Global

According to VFS Global, visa applications in India have surpassed the pre-pandemic level for the first time. The volume of visa applications in the first half of 2024 (January to June) increased by 2% compared to the first half of 2019. According to the company, the increase in volumes was due to strong demand. Compared to the first half of 2023, the volume of visa applications increased by 11%.

Yummi Talwar, COO (South Asia) at VFS Global, expects the current demand to continue. “Demand for outbound travel from India has remained robust and it was only a matter of time before it recovered to pre-pandemic levels. India has seen a prolonged travel season over the last two years and we are confident that the momentum will continue till the end of the year,” she said.

According to data provided by VFS Global, the demand for visa applications was mainly seen in countries such as Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The company has seen a sharp increase in demand for its premium offering, the home visa service. Bookings for the latter service in H1 2024 were up 16% compared to H1 2023 and up fivefold compared to 2019. The service offers customers the complete submission of visa applications for 16 countries from their home.

A visa can be applied for at home for countries such as Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
