Vistara-Air India merger: What will happen to tickets booked for travel dates after November 11?

New Delhi: Vistara Airlines will cease operations from November 12 and will fly till November 11, before its merger with Air India. After November 11, all aircraft and crew of the airline will be shifted to Air India. But what will happen to the planned trips and tickets already booked after November 11?

Vistara has said that those who have already booked their tickets beyond November 11 will have their tickets transferred to Air India.

In an official communication, the airline said, “All customers who have already booked with Vistara for travel from 12th November 2024 onwards will have their tickets transferred to Air India and will soon receive communication via email and SMS regarding this change.”

Ticket bookings after November 12 from September 3 onwards will be redirected to Air India

From September 3, passengers wishing to book flights departing on or after November 12 through Vistara’s website will be progressively redirected to Air India’s website to complete the booking.

“All customers who have already booked Vistara flights after November 12 will automatically have their bookings converted to Air India flight numbers; this will happen in phases during September and customers will be informed individually when this happens,” Wilson said.

He said with regulatory approvals now in hand, the movement of aircraft and crew from Vistara’s Air Operator Certificate to Air India’s has been set for November 12.

“As we embark on the final stretch of this long and complicated process, let us maintain our focus and effort to ensure our collective customers and colleagues experience the smoothest transition possible,” Wilson said in the message.

With regulatory approvals in place, Air India chief Campbell Wilson today said November 12 has been set as the date for the transfer of Vistara aircraft and crew to Air India.

Vistara-Air India merger

Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, will merge with Air India. Following the merger, the Singapore carrier will hold a 25.1 per cent stake in Tata Group-owned Air India.

The government has approved foreign direct investment by Singapore Airlines as part of the merger.

In a message to staff on Friday, Wilson said they are now entering the final stretch of the long and complicated merger process. The merger was announced in November 2022.

Wilson said that for Vistara flights starting November 12, flight numbers will change to those of Air India, although in almost all cases the aircraft, schedule and operating crew will not change until early 2025.
