Meaning: scratch or wear by friction or erosion
Example: It was a landscape slowly worn away by a fine, sharp dust.
False (adjective)
Meaning: not genuine or true (used in a disapproving way when an attempt has been made to deceive)
Example: It was difficult to avoid the conclusion that fair trade claims are false.
Abstruse (adjective)
Meaning: difficult to understand; obscure
Example: an abstruse philosophical investigation
Consternation (noun)
Meaning: A feeling of anxiety or dismay, usually over something unexpected.
Example: The central message of the book caused the most consternation
Enigma (noun)
Meaning: a confusing and difficult problem or question
Example: The last two days may have finally provided an answer to that riddle.
Greedy (adjective)
Meaning: having or showing a great desire to possess something that belongs to another person.
Example: Red has many qualities that I think you would want.
Demagogue (noun)
Meaning: A political leader who seeks support by appealing to the desires and prejudices of ordinary people rather than by using rational arguments.
Example: A talented demagogue with a special ability to manipulate the press.
Denouement (noun)
Meaning: the result of a situation, when something is decided or clarified.
Example: The stage was now set for the final outcome of a two-actor drama.
Departure (noun)
Meaning: the action of leaving or leaving a place
Example: There are paved access roads to allow access and exit of residents.
Euthanasia (noun)
Meaning: To painlessly kill a patient who suffers from an incurable and painful disease or who is in an irreversible coma.
Example: The message for everyone is that the debate on euthanasia must continue.
