Vodafone Idea: Vodafone Idea Q1 results: Losses narrow to Rs 6,432 crore; revenue down marginally

Vodafone Idea has narrowed its losses to Rs 6,432 crore for the first quarter ended June 2024, compared with Rs 7,675 crore reported in the previous quarter of March 2024 and Rs 7,840 crore in the last quarter of the year.

Revenue Operating income in the reporting period declined marginally by 1.38% year-on-year to Rs 10,508 crore. This compares to Rs 10,655 crore in the year-ago period.

The company reported EBITDA of Rs 4,205 crore in the reported quarter, up from Rs 4,336 crore in the year-ago period. Meanwhile, EBITDA margins contracted 90 basis points to 40%.

ARPU (Average revenue per user) for the quarter stood at Rs 146 as against Rs 139 a year ago, showing a year-on-year growth of 4.5%, helped primarily by the change in entry-level plan and subscriber upgrades.

“Our current capex needs are being met from equity funds. We are working with our lenders to link debt funding to the execution of our network expansion with a planned capex of Rs 50,000-55,000 crore over the next 3 years,” said Akshaya Moondra, CEO, Vodafone Idea. Moondra further said that the recent tariff intervention is a step in the right direction for the industry to move towards better return on investment as well as improve cash generation to support large investment requirements. The telco’s 4G subscriber base continued to grow for the 12th consecutive quarter. It stands at 126.7 million at the end of Q1FY25, an addition of 3.8 million 4G subscribers over the last year. The total subscriber base stood at 210.1 million. Total debt of banks and financial institutions stood at Rs 4,650 crore and optionally convertible debentures at Rs 160 crore as of June 2024. Cash and bank balance stood at Rs 18,150 crore at the end of the June quarter.

Payment obligations to the government stood at Rs 2.09 lakh crore as on June 30, 2024, including deferred spectrum payment obligations of Rs 1.39 lakh crore and AGR liability of Rs 70,320 crore.

On Monday, Vodafone Idea shares closed 0.5 per cent lower at Rs 16.02 on the NSE.
