Want to get paid to move to Spain? Extremadura reaches out to remote workers

Spain’s least visited region, Extremadura, offers digital nomads around 13,00,000 rupees (15,000 euros) to move to the area. Extremadura, an autonomous community bordering Portugal, has one of the lowest populations in Spain and is also one of the least developed regions. Extremadura has 17.6 percent unemployment and has the lowest GDP per capita in the country.

The Extremaduran authorities have decided to help 200 remote workers and digital nomads in their region. A total budget of two million euros has been allocated for this purpose. Digital nomads will also receive financial aid and will be able to enjoy a lower cost of living compared to other areas of Spain.

According to Numbeo, in the Extremaduran city of Badajoz, spending on eating out, public transport and supplies is on average 30 percent cheaper than in Madrid, the capital of Spain.
