The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall alerts for several states this week, including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha and more. These alerts range from yellow to orange, indicating varying levels of expected rainfall and weather conditions.

Orange alert in Kerala

In Kerala, an orange alert has been issued for several districts, including Ernakulam, Thrissur and Idukki, which is expected to last till Thursday. The IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds of up to 40 kmph, especially in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts.

Yellow alert in Delhi

For the next two days, Delhi will be under yellow alert as the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the national capital till Thursday. On Tuesday, Delhi experienced intermittent rains, with the maximum temperature recorded at 33.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal. The Safdarjung observatory, a key weather station in the city, recorded 20.2 mm of rainfall on Tuesday morning.

Orange alert in Kerala

In Kerala, an orange alert has been issued for several districts, including Ernakulam, Thrissur and Idukki, which is expected to last till Thursday. The IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds of up to 40 kmph, especially in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts.

Severe weather in Rajasthan

Parts of Rajasthan, especially Jaipur, have been severely affected by extreme rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, leading to major flooding and traffic disruption. Local weather agencies expect intermittent rains to persist in the region for the next two to three days.

Himachal Pradesh Rain Forecast

Himachal Pradesh has experienced heavy rains and thunderstorms over the weekend, with the water level of the Markhanda river reaching dangerous heights. The IMD has forecast more rains in several districts, including Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla, Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur, over the next five days. The meteorological centre in Shimla has issued a yellow alert.

Additional Rain Warnings

The recent IMD press release highlights the likelihood of widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rains over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and eastern Uttar Pradesh between August 10 and 16. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and western Uttar Pradesh are also expected to experience similar conditions on August 10, 11 and 14-16. Meanwhile, Punjab and Haryana including Chandigarh are on rain alert on August 10, 11 and 14.
