National Security Advisor Ajit Doval
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval Doval will travel to Moscow following a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin on August 27. Sources confirm that Doval will visit Russia with proposals aimed at resolving the ongoing conflicts. This trip comes just over a week after PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine and ahead of his upcoming visit to the US.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky Zelenskyy had stressed on India’s possible influence in ending the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. In response to a question from Times Now, Zelenskyy had said, “If India and Indians change their attitude towards Russia, this war will end. Because Putin himself will stop it.”
Speaking to Times Now, Zelenskyy explained his expectations from India, saying, “Ukraine wants India to stand by its side to end the war and not to do a balancing act between Russia and Ukraine.” He further highlighted the impact of India’s economic decisions, particularly in the energy sector, noting, “If India stops buying oil from Russia, then it will be a challenge for Russia to sustain the war.”
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history by becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Ukraine, when he met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in kyiv. The leaders greeted each other warmly with a hug and a handshake at the Martyrologists Exhibition. Their talks will include one-on-one and delegation-level discussions, focusing on finding a negotiated solution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in kyiv after a 10-hour journey from Poland aboard the ‘Rail Force One’ train, marking the final leg of his two-nation tour.
This visit to Ukraine came almost six weeks after his important trip to Russia, where he held extensive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, mainly aimed at ending the conflict.
In their last meeting in June during the G7 summit in Puglia, Italy, Prime Minister Modi assured President Zelensky that India would continue to support a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict and stressed that “dialogue and diplomacy” are essential to achieving peace.
During that meeting, Prime Minister Modi also conveyed India’s commitment to a “human-centric” approach to resolving the conflict, and President Zelenskyy extended an invitation to him to visit Kyiv.
