When things get overwhelming, we often indulge in things that may not be good for our long-term health, but give us instant satisfaction and relief. Smoking, drinking, and overeating are readily available coping mechanisms that make us feel better when we are stressed. This is what 24-year-old Om Prakash Mandal did while he was away from home, living in a hostel, homesick, and further struggling with body dysmorphia and anxiety. depression. Street food It became her coping mechanism, but she soon realized that this habit would affect her overall health in the future.

“During high school, I struggled with body dysmorphia and depression. I lived in a hostel, away from my family. I turned to street food to deal with the stress of school and mental health issues. Although I was a science student, I understood very little about the relationship between food and the body. I had a wake-up call when I couldn’t do 10 push-ups and run a lap as a punishment for my class,” she said.

Om decided to start his Weight Loss Transformation She started her journey when she weighed 85kg in 2019. “I joined a nearby gym just so I could run a lap without getting tired. So, my journey started in February 2019, I weighed 85kg, the heaviest I have ever been. Around that time, my sister introduced me to Fittr, a platform where I learned the concept of calories and the importance of a balanced diet, especially protein intake,” she said.

Their hectic and inconsistent schedules exercise The routine made his transformation very slow. In over 4 years, he was only able to lose 8kg. However, this gradual progress helped him adapt to the new routine and over time, he gained confidence in the process as his health and overall fitness improved significantly.

“In 2020, I saw a Facebook post by Fitrr Coach Hemant Rao which inspired me to seek his guidance. Enrolling with him has been the best decision I have ever made as he has played a major role in helping me achieve my fitness goals. He taught me discipline and accountability in my fitness journey. As a result of this, I was able to achieve this transformation in a healthy way. I started my weight loss journey at 85 kg and now weigh 60 kg. Under his guidance, I lost 25 kg and am now leading a healthy lifestyle. His mantra – “Do the work, one good day at a time” and “Create habits, set routines, WIN” helped me push my limits and work towards achieving my goals.

What inspired you to embark on this journey?

“In high school or 12th grade, we were punished. We had to run a lap around the school grounds and do 10 push-ups. I realized I couldn’t even do 10 push-ups or run the lap (it was about 400 meters). This experience stayed with me and my struggles dealing with body dysmorphia and depression motivated me to take control of my fitness,” Om shared.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced along the way?

“During my weight loss journey, staying consistent with my diet and workout plans was quite a challenge. The challenge became more difficult during final exams or festivals. People used to body shame me because I was overweight. The negative comments really affected me and shattered my self-esteem. Overcoming my lack of knowledge about nutrition and workouts were also major hurdles to overcome,” Om shared.

How did you stay motivated during your weight loss journey?

Discipline and responsibility played a crucial role in Om’s transformation. “I overcame my challenges by being disciplined and responsible. Continually reminding myself of my goal and constantly reminding myself of my target of being able to run a lap motivated me. I really wanted to be fit. People in my life like my trainer Hemanth Rao and my sisters who were always there for me played a crucial role here,” he shared.

Diet and exercise regimen you followed during your transformation

Om followed his own meal plan and exercise regimen based on his needs. His diet focused on calorie deficit with balanced macronutrients, especially protein intake based on his BMR (basal metabolic rate) and TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). Om’s exercise regimen included gym and HIIT workouts designed to improve endurance and strength.

“My regime now includes regular strength training along with completing a 10km step target every day. It also focuses on adequate water and sleep intake along with a calorie-appropriate diet,” she said.

Did you encounter any obstacles and if so, how did you overcome them?

“Yes, I faced many setbacks. First it was the lack of consistency in my routine and then I returned to my “non-fitness” lifestyle, with “bad” eating habits. As a result, there was no improvement in my physical or mental health. Negative comments about my body, at home, at school or at the gym, even on the Internet, were constant,” she said.

“I overcame them by staying disciplined and accountable, receiving constant support and proper guidance from my coach and continually reminding myself of my goal,” he added.

What advice would you give to others who want to embark on a similar transformation journey?

“As cliché as it may sound, please believe in the process and be consistent, as consistent effort over time yields significant results. Ask for help, seek guidance when needed, be disciplined and have patience with yourself. Even if you stray from your diet or gym routine, find the strength and grace to get back to your set goal and routine,” Om said.

How has your life changed since you achieved your weight loss goals?

“In many ways it’s the same, but it’s also different. I get more compliments now and less ‘advice’ like, ‘Don’t go to the gym, it will ruin your body!’ My classmates now ask me for advice and few of them have started working out. The negative comments have gone from ‘you’re fat’ to ‘you’re using PEDs’ (performance-enhancing drugs), which I don’t do,” Om said.

“This transformation has helped me grow both mentally and emotionally. I am now more disciplined in various aspects of my life. My confidence has improved and I have gained immense self-determination and positive self-belief. I am the same, but now with a healthy and strong body that can set and achieve goals despite challenges,” said Om.
