As soon as Ankita Agnihotri started earning money, she realised the importance of being fit and healthy herself first as it will help her become the pillar of support for her parents. “My weight loss journey has been eye-opening for me personally. It was never just about eating less and exercising more, because that is not a permanent solution to losing fat and having a healthy body. I lost over 20kg in just 6 months and resolved hormonal imbalances such as insulin resistance and PCOS,” she said.

She revealed that what worked for her was adopting a healthy lifestyle based on three key pillars:

  • Stress management
  • Ankita transformed herself in 6 months during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, with a balanced home-cooked diet and a good daily routine that included regular workouts, timely sleep, and stress management. However, as we all know, losing weight is never a cakewalk. Ankita had her ups and downs, but still managed to achieve her goal. When asked about the challenges she faced along the way, she said, “One of the biggest challenges was the lack of proper knowledge about how the body works and the right approach to lose weight without compromising on health. Many gym trainers and dieticians I came across only recommended me to eat less and move more, which worsened my situation.”

    How did you stay motivated during your weight loss journey?

    “I always kept my ‘WHY’ in mind. On days when I didn’t feel like getting out of bed to exercise, I would remind myself why I wanted to be healthy and fit. My answer was always, ‘I want to live life in the best health and be there for my loved ones,’” she said.

    Diet and exercise regimen followed during her transformation

    “I didn’t follow any specific fad diet. I stuck to a balanced, home-cooked diet, making sure I consumed 15-20 g of protein at every meal, along with vegetables for fiber, healthy fats, and a small amount of carbs,” shares Ankita.

    Did you encounter any obstacles and if so, how did you overcome them?

    “Yes, at first I tried eating fewer calories and exercising twice a day. While this helped me lose some weight, I had problems like losing my period, uncontrollable cravings, and eventually regaining the lost weight. Then, I educated myself about the human body and how proper nutrition can facilitate effortless weight loss,” she said.

    What advice would you give to others who want to embark on a similar transformation journey?

    “If you are a beginner and want to lose weight but are not sure how to get started, instead of relying on random YouTube videos, consider working with a mentor or health professional to understand the basics of your body’s needs. This will help you avoid damaging your metabolism with fad diets,” she said.

    How has your life changed since you achieved your weight loss goals?

    Ankita shares that her life has changed drastically in every aspect. “Beyond the physical transformation, I feel better, more energetic and emotionally stable. My mental clarity has improved and I perform better in both my professional and personal life,” she said.
