What secret is Sandeep Ghosh hiding?

Murder of a doctor in Kolkata: The CBI, which is probing the case of alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at West Bengal government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, questioned Sandeep Ghosh, former director of Kar Institute, for the 14th consecutive day on Friday in this connection. Officials said that Ghosh has already been questioned for over 140 hours. They said that Ghosh is being questioned in connection with this heinous crime. He is also on the agency’s radar in the case of alleged financial malpractices at the hospital and an FIR has already been registered against him and other institutions.

CBI involved in investigation into financial irregularities

A CBI official said the first of three teams from the agency’s headquarters at the Nizam’s Palace probing alleged financial irregularities reached the hospital morgue and enquired about its infrastructure, preservation of dead bodies and protocols related to conducting autopsies. Seeking to clarify the matter and the situation regarding it, the five-member team spoke to doctors and staff at the hospital, including the head of the forensic department and the current deputy director, Dr Saptarshi Chatterjee.

Investigation continues based on allegations made by former Deputy Superintendent Akhtar Ali

The central agency is investigating complaints filed by the hospital’s former deputy superintendent, Akhtar Ali, alleging smuggling of unclaimed bodies, corruption in disposal of biomedical waste, nepotism in construction tenders during Ghosh’s tenure as director as well as other allegations of financial misconduct. The official said another CBI team from the Nizam’s Palace searched the hospital’s store building, where medical and procurement-related documents are kept. Another CBI team was said to have visited the hospital on Thursday on the third floor of the emergency building, where the victim was on duty that night.
