While talking to Prabhat Khabar, Yogendra Yadav said, JMM’s hold in the tribal areas is strong.

ranchi: Yogendra Yadav is a well-known sociologist, social worker and pro-people politician of the country. He had given the most authentic and scientific basis to the electoral science and cephalology of the country. Currently he has given up making election predictions. He is roaming among the fighting forces across the country in connection with social concerns. He is the campaign leader of Bharat Jodo. Yogendra Yadav arrived at Prabhat Khabar office on Tuesday. Prabhat Khabar office chief Anand Mohan held a long conversation on the current politics of the country since the last Lok Sabha elections. Here are excerpts from the conversation.

Q. How do you view the mandate of the last Lok Sabha elections and the mandate of Modi 3.0?

Look, this mandate has to be seen in context. If we look formally, we can say that the Modi government has been formed for the third time. If the Modi government is formed for the third time, it will be a great achievement. This was not a normal election. This election was not an election for Parliament, it was an election for the Constituent Assembly. This election was a yes and no for Modi. This election said no by giving 240 seats. The rest are formal figures, the government is already formed. But the Iqbal government got its way. Now different kinds of questions are being raised which were not raised before.

Nowadays, the trend of giving money directly to people and opening coffers has increased in the states. Ladli Brahmin Yojana is being run in Madhya Pradesh and Mainiyan Samman Yojana is being run in Jharkhand. How beneficial is it in elections?

I used to think that the announcement of the last six months doesn’t matter. But the elections in Madhya Pradesh seem to be making a difference. The reality is that the average citizen feels that the government will do something, otherwise it won’t. They have understood that they are not going to get basic things from this government. Education, health or anything else is just cash, take it, the rest is dialogue. That is why whoever gets a thousand, a thousand five hundred, he holds on to it tightly. This is called Revadi culture, I don’t believe in it. Those who talk about Revadi cannot see the laddus that are given to big corporates. But most governments have abandoned the effort to create infrastructure and bring prosperity to the people. This is a question of danger. Don’t give me five or ten rupee notes, I am sick so I can get something from the hospital. That effort should be made.

Q. What is your prediction regarding the Jharkhand assembly elections? Will Hemant Soren form the government again or will the BJP emerge as a major force?

I have been drawn to predictions. By law, the BJP should win here. Broadly speaking, you will see that if the Lok Sabha elections are repeated, the BJP is ahead. But this is not visible on the ground. Assembly If it has a lead in 51 of them, then it should contest, but that situation is not visible on the ground. The five seats won by the Indian Alliance are all tribal seats. The JMM’s hold on the tribal areas does not seem to be weakening. After the Lok Sabha elections it would have become stronger, not weaker. But wherever the BJP was active, all sorts of things were said. New parties are coming into those areas.

Q. The BJP has become the party of the entire country. Have there been better results in the southern states as well?

There is no doubt that the BJP is a challenger at the national level. Its penetration has increased in the southern areas. Look, for the BJP you can see two types of areas, where they are the embodiment of power, from Karnataka to Jharkhand, the BJP has suffered losses. Secondly, there is the area where the BJP is challenging. Where the BJP is not in power, there is opposition. The opposition is wearing the mask of resistance, which the BJP has benefited from. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha. There is no guarantee about the power and the Modi wave in the elections. The BJP has an extension in these elections. The BJP is not such a force that it can continue to play jokes. Even if its government comes to power at the Centre, the struggle will be long.
