Who built 693 bridges in Bihar?

Bridges of Bihar: Patna. The Bihar government does not know who constructed 693 bridges in 14 districts of the state. This shocking fact has come to light in a survey conducted by the state government. After cases of bridges continuously collapsing in Bihar came to light, the Water Resources Department conducted a survey at its level. It is evident from this survey report that there is no information available about who constructed 693 bridges and culverts built over canals and drains in 14 districts. Neither the department nor the government has any information about which department constructed these bridges, who owns them and who is looking after them. Now, a request has been made to the Rural Development Department for information about these bridges.

Everything is ‘unknown’ in the report

Sanjay Kumar, executive director of the Rural Development Department, has issued instructions to the DMs of all districts in this regard. He has said that in the list of bridges and culverts submitted by the Water Resources Department after study and investigation, it is not known who constructed 693 bridges and culverts in 14 districts. Even the department is not aware of it. The Water Resources Department in its report informed that its construction agency is “unknown”.

Information requested from these departments.

Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources Department Chaitanya Prasad had sought information about these culverts from the Road Construction Department, Rural Works Department, Panchayati Raj Department, Planning and Development Department and Rural Development Department. He has asked these departments to identify these bridges and repair them as per the inspection report, but after they were declared unknown, the way is not being cleared for their repair.
