Will Biden attend the inauguration if Trump is elected in November? Possible clue to ‘manners’

KEY POINTS

  • Asked about attending Trump’s inauguration if elected, Biden did not confirm it but criticized Trump’s behavior.
  • Biden suggested Trump lacked manners, referencing Trump’s actions during his own inauguration in 2021.
  • Trump had falsely claimed there had been election fraud, prompting a riot at the Capitol by his supporters.

Joe Biden attacked the former president Donald Trump During a press conference with reporters on Tuesday, the 81-year-old president expressed anger at his behavior. He also hinted that he might attend the inauguration if Trump is elected president in November.

Biden was asked by a reporter if he would attend the inauguration if Trump is elected. “I have good manners, not like him,” Trump said. While Biden did not explicitly say whether he would attend, he did mock Trump’s action when he was sworn in as president in 2021. Trump had alleged voter fraud and his supporters stormed the Capitol to prevent the Senate from approving Biden’s mandate.

Trump has repeatedly mentioned how he was preparing for a race against Joe Biden, which was somewhat affected by the arrival of Kamala Harris. Harris has taken a lead over Trump in several of the key battleground states. Notably, President Joe Biden’s approval rating had been falling sharply since his performance at the CNN debate on June 27.

Harris now has a significant lead over Trump, according to the latest polls from Morning Consult, Reuters/Ipsos, YouGov/Economist, NPR/PBS News/Marist and CBS News.

The Morning Consult poll showed her with a 3-point lead (47% to 44%). The Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Harris leading 42% to 37%, with a narrower 49% to 47% advantage when pressed for undecided voters. Other polls, including YouGov/Economist and NPR/PBS News/Marist, also show Harris with a slight lead, though Trump remains close in the margin of error ranges.
