With Lok Sabha elections on the way, the Congress regime is planning a grand job fair in Bengaluru next week

The state government will hold a two-day job fair at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru from February 26 as the ruling Congress seeks to highlight the unemployment issue ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections and their own initiatives to address it.

The government has named the event as Yuva Samruddhi Sammelana, for which around 31,000 youth from across the state have registered. “We hope that more candidates will register,” said the Skill Development Minister. Sharan Prakash Patil and the Minister of IT/BT Priyank Kharge informed the media. The Skills and Livelihood Development Department is organizing the fair.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will inaugurate the job fair which comes close on the heels of the launch of one of the Congress party’s five ambitious guarantees, called Yuva Nidhi. Announced by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the assembly election campaign, the scheme offers a monthly stipend of Rs 3,000 for graduates and Rs 1,500 for diploma holders.

More than 500 national and multinational companies will participate in the fair, with nearly 100,000 vacancies. “This will be the right platform for young people to find jobs that suit their qualifications and skills. I urge them to participate in large numbers and take advantage of this opportunity,” Patil said.

Interested applicants include graduates as well as those who have completed engineering degrees, diplomas and other employment-oriented courses. Those who have registered for the fair will receive messages to visit the stalls and look for suitable jobs. The government will assist unsuccessful candidates with training to help them find suitable jobs later, the ministers said.

The government will set up around 600 stalls for the registered candidates to visit and explore the opportunities that fit what they are looking for. Executives from private companies as well as experts will be present there to offer information to the candidates. No state is holding such job fairs across the country, Patil said, crediting the CM for the initiative. “Our efforts will be fruitful only if candidates come forward in large numbers and get job offers,” the Skill Development Minister said. Kharge highlighted Karnataka’s strengths and said that big companies were operating from Karnataka due to its infrastructure and availability of skilled manpower.

“We are not only creating jobs but also imparting skills by opening training centres. We will try to provide jobs to those who have registered here by following up on them,” the ICT Minister said, adding that the boom in IT companies came during the UPA regime at the centre.
