New Delhi: A woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of her mother, along with her fiancé and a common friend, in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh area, police said Saturday.
The accused were identified as Monika, her fiancé Naveen Kumar, a resident of Narela, and their friend Yogesh alias Yogi of HaryanaIt’s Sonipat, they said.
According to police, a woman had called them on Friday and told them that her mother was inside the house and was unresponsive and that she needed the police to come and break down the door.
The caller, who identified herself as Monika Solanki, said her 58-year-old mother lived alone on the fourth floor of a residential building in Najafgarh’s main market.
He said he had visited her the day before and that she was fine.
A team of police officers arrived and forced open the door. Inside they found a woman, Sumitra, lying on the bedroom floor with bruises on her forehead, one eye and the wrists of both hands.
His mouth was open with blood and rigor mortis had set in, an officer said.
As part of the investigation, police reviewed security camera footage from the building. Two men and a woman were seen entering the apartment at 2:18 a.m. that same day, the officer said.
A clearer image of the footage revealed that the woman was Monika. The two men were later identified as Naveen and Yogesh.
The police arrested all three and charged them under Section 103(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
At first glance, the cause of the murder is suspected to be property robbery, but questioning is continuing, the officer said.
