Police said the accused have been identified as Raju Ray (29), Guddu Kumar Sharma (29) and Pappu Kumar (22). All of them are residents of Bihar. This incident occurred in Northeast Delhi last week. The accused called the victim woman and told her that they were CBI officers. Her husband, an NDMC employee, has been arrested in a rape case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said a complaint was received from an NDMC employee that his wife received a call from an unknown number. The caller introduced himself as a CBI officer. She was told about her husband’s arrest in a rape case and was asked for Rs 2 lakh to release her and threatened to defame her if she did not pay him.

DCP said that under the influence of the three accused, the woman transferred money to two bank accounts provided by them. The accused did not allow her to disconnect the phone call for about six hours. Following this, the victim filed a case against the accused. Based on technical and intelligence evidence, the police conducted raids at many places in Bihar.

Digital house arrest is a tactic where cybercriminals imprison victims in their homes to defraud them. Criminals create fear and take advantage by making audio or video calls.
