The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday (August 26) announced the revamped schedule for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. The tournament has been shifted from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates due to political unrest in the latter country. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will therefore lock horns on October 6, but the timing of the clash has raised many questions.

The much-awaited IND vs PAK encounter will begin at 3:30 pm IST and not in the evening, which is considered the prime time. Interestingly, the Indian men’s team will also play on the same day in a T20I against Bangladesh at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior and that clash is scheduled to begin at 7 pm IST.

The ICC has avoided the clash between the two matches to ensure that the attraction for the marquee India vs Pakistan clash is not affected. On the contrary, it can be said that even the viewership of the India vs Bangladesh T20I is not affected as the anticipation around the IND vs PAK encounter will be more as usual.

At the same time, India’s other World Cup matches against New Zealand (October 4), Sri Lanka (October 9) and Australia (October 13) will begin at 7:30 pm IST. The second T20I between India and Bangladesh will clash with India’s Women’s World Cup match against Sri Lanka on October 9, but the ICC is yet to change the timing of that match.

While there has been no official confirmation or statement from the ICC regarding the start time of the IND vs PAK clash, which will be at 3:30 pm, it is obvious that the world cricket body is looking to gain maximum momentum from the showpiece encounter of the World Cup. Also, the broadcasters of both the series (Women’s T20 World Cup and IND vs BAN series) are different. While the rights of the Women’s T20 World Cup are held by Star Sports, Sports18 will telecast India’s home series against Bangladesh.
