“Work should be fun”: This company embraces pickleball culture and pays its employees to play the sport in the office

Pickleball It has become a new sensation. The racket sport has managed to attract attention with its simplified style of play.
People of all ages have taken to the pickleball court in large numbers and the game has become a way to release stress. Room and boardA Minneapolis-based furniture retailer, installed a pickleball court for its employees on the first floor of its office building.
The company wants its employees to feel comfortable at work and therefore introduced this sport in 2013. Although this sport has always been a favourite among employees since the debut of the court, its appeal has increased dramatically in the last two years.
The COVID-19 pandemic helped pickleball reach its peak and the sport managed to stay in people’s minds. A pickleball court can be set up at a very low cost and people started enjoying the game quite intensely.
Nancy Manley, chief human resources officer at Room & Board, told CNBC: “We don’t want people to come into the office and spend all day on video calls… otherwise, what’s the point?” she added. “Work should be fun.”
“To have happy, healthy and productive employees, you need to give them the space and tools to take care of themselves,” Manley says. “Pickeball is just another way to de-stress and break a sweat.”
Recently, Pickleball League Asia Private Limited, in association with The Times Group, launched the Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) at a grand event in Dubai on July 24. PWR will enhance sports governance and future longevity by uniting regional groups under a single, cohesive structure.
The announcement was made by PWR at the event attended by Vineet Jain, MD -The Times Group and Bennett University Chancellor, Pranav Kohli, CEO and Founder of PWR, the world’s top Pickleball players including APP Tour Women’s World No. 1 Megan Fudge DeHeart, and other notables from the international Pickleball community.
