Zahoor joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) as a net bowler and got the opportunity to share the dressing room with some of the best cricketers in the world when the Indian Premier League (IPL) shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Zahoor claimed that Bumrah was impressed with his slower deliveries and wanted to learn from him on how to bowl them. The UAE pacer revealed that he also sought advice from the star Indian pacer on the ability to bowl yorkers with the new ball.

“I was with Mumbai Indians for three months. I spent a fair amount of time with Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah. In fact, Bumrah liked me so much that he asked me about the grip. Yeh slower ball kaise dalte ho? (How do you bowl this ball?). This is very important to me as he is the number one bowler in the world and he asked me about the grip. He also saw my video in the T10 tournament where I bowled a maiden ball. I told him that, but I also asked him how he bowls Yorkers with the new ball. Because only two people in the world can do it: Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah,” Zahoor told Sports Tak.

Zahoor was all praise for Rohit, who led MI for a decade and captained the team during his stint. The veteran pace bowler claimed that the T20 World Cup-winning captain made sure that he was comfortable in the camp. However, the UAE star further claimed that Rohit was left baffled by his deliveries in the nets.

“The entire stadium is yours, paaji. If you need anything, let me know,” Rohit told Zahoor.

“I even bowled a ball to Rohit Sharma. I once bowled a slower ball to him and he kept looking because the ball was barely reaching him. Even he couldn’t guess my deliveries. He thought, ‘How can it be so slow?’ So I bowled to him again. He said even if the batsman picks your ball, it will never result in a six,” Zahoor added.

While Zahoor never played in the IPL, he was picked by MI’s sister franchise MI Emirates in the UAE-based ILT20 and played for them. In fact, he was part of their title-winning squad in 2024.
