Yogi Adityanath: Partition horrors repeating themselves in Pakistan and Bangladesh, secularists silent on voting | India News

In his statement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath drew a parallel between the horrors of the 1947 Partition and the current situation in Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister claims that similar atrocities are still being committed. Speaking at an event to mark Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Adityanath highlighted the violence and persecution faced by Hindus and Sikhs in these countries.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said the horrors seen during Partition are happening now in Bangladesh and Pakistan. “The date and faces may have changed, but the nature of the incidents is the same as in 1947. It is still happening in Pakistan. It is still happening in Bangladesh,” he said at an event here on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

Adityanath added, “At that time, 10 lakh Hindus and Sikhs were massacred. Even today we see the same arson, looting and harassment of daughters and sisters. When will we learn from the mistakes of the past?” He said, “Over 1.5 crore Hindus are crying to save their honour in Bangladesh.” But “the so-called secularists in India are not uttering a word because they fear that if they raise their voice for the weak, their vote bank will slip away,” the prime minister said.

“They care about their vote bank but will not utter a word in defence of humanity because they have been pursuing divide and rule policy since Partition,” Adityanath said.

Addressing the Congress, he said that if the political leaders of that time had shown courage, no power in the world could have brought about this “unnatural” Partition. Lack of strong willpower and lust for power, and for obtaining power even at the cost of the country, led to Partition in 1947, the prime minister said.

“When the country was on the verge of independence, this Sanotan country had to face the horror of Partition,” Adityanath said, adding that this happened “because of the Congress’s lust for power.” He said this had caused such a deep wound to independent India that it is still hurting the country in the form of terrorism and separatism, asserting that the politics of that era are still being practised.

“Whenever these people came to power, they played politics at the cost of the country. The people of the country had to pay the price for this then (in 1947). The people paid the price for a long time,” Adityanath said. The chief minister said there are political parties which are trying to revive the horrors of Partition, only this time through the issue of caste system, and criticised them for pursuing the politics of divide and rule.

Adityanath also took part in a “silent Padia in memory of the horrors of Partition” from the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to the Lok Bhavan in Hazratganj area. In a post on X in Hindi, he reflected on the impact of Partition and said it was not merely the partition of a country but a division of humanity itself. This inhuman decision led to the loss of countless innocent lives, inflicting the pain of displacement and immense suffering on the people, Adityanath said.

The Prime Minister said, “Our Mother India, which introduced the soul-stirring sentiment of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) to the world, was pushed into the tragedy of Partition on this day in the year 1947 due to vested political interests. Humble tributes to all the innocent citizens who were martyred in the inhuman tragedy of the painful Partition due to communal frenzy.”
