After four decades, India and Sri Lanka The ferry service will be connected by ferry service, marking a milestone in the history of the two countries and their bilateral relations. The reinstated ferry service will connect Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu to Kankesanthurai in northern Sri Lanka.
This sea bridge promises to revive trade and passenger relations between the two nations. The ferry service, which was originally scheduled to commence in October 2023, was suspended due to the unavailability of a dedicated ferry. But now, the Sivaganga Cruise, operated by Indsri Ferry Services Pvt Ltd, will traverse the historic sea route, overcoming the challenges posed by the contentious Park Strait.
India-Sri Lanka ferry schedules and prices
The ferry will reportedly operate daily, with a four-hour journey between the two ports. Offering both ordinary and premium class seating, ticket prices are competitive, especially when compared to air travel options. The Sivaganga cruise has 133 seats in the ordinary class and 27 seats in the premium class. The ticket price for a one-way journey is close to Rs 5,000 for the ordinary class and Rs 7,500 for the premium class. The new ferry terminal at Nagapattinam features modern amenities, including health and security checkpoints.
However, due to poor sea conditions, the service will remain suspended from November 15 to January 15 each year.
