You’ll soon be able to add music and mention friends in status updates, WhatsApp’s Carl Woog confirms | EXCLUSIVE

WhatsApp is all set to bring an Instagram-like feature to its platform that will allow users to add music and tag friends in status updates soon. Carl Woog, Vice President of Global Communications at WhatsAppHe confirmed this during an exclusive interaction with Times Now Technology.

On the sidelines of an event in Delhi, when asked about plans to introduce tagging and music options in WhatsApp status Updates, Woog confirmed: “Yeah, this is coming soon. I don’t have a specific date for when it will be available, but we are working on bringing music to Status which will be cool, as well as the ability to tag people.”

Woog explained that privacy remains a priority as they develop new features. “We want to do it in a private way, so that the label is only seen by a limited group of people. These features are currently in development,” he said.

Asked about the exact timeline, he replied: “Hopefully very soon.”

Woog also explained how WhatsApp will inform users about Meta AI and ensure its use complies with Indian laws.

“One thing we may consider is how we could use our voice more to explain how the AI works. One thing is certain. Before you use Meta AI, we make it clear that only what you send to the AI can be seen by the AI. Your messages, and all other communications with your friends and family, remain private and encrypted. You control whether you want to ask the AI a question. We provide information on our website about how this works and how we protect your privacy,” he explained.

“Teaching people how to use AI is a priority for us,” Woog stressed.

“We are using our social channels to do this. WhatsApp has invested in raising awareness about its privacy features and we may see similar efforts related to Meta AI in the future. While I don’t have any announcements today, it is something we may consider,” he added.

For now, Woog mentioned that WhatsApp is using its social channels to educate users on how to interact with Meta AI.
