YouTube accidentally removed channels and banned accounts for violating its “spam, deceptive practices, and scams policy”
New Delhi: YouTube On Saturday it confirmed that it had incorrectly deleted some channels and videos due to a “technical glitch” and added that it had restored most of them. The platform said the channels and videos were incorrectly removed for “spam and deceptive practices.”
“Happy to report that all channels and most of the incorrectly deleted videos have been restored and subscriptions have been restored (we are still working on the latter, please be patient!!).
“We know this caused some outages and we greatly appreciate your patience while we fix this,” YouTube said in a post on X on October 5.
The company also mentioned that some YouTube creators may be missing some content, such as playlists. But they will also be restored soon, the company added.
The original notice and subsequent updates on the support page were directed at “Content Creators.”
However, some non-content creators have been unable to access their YouTube account, watch YouTube videos, or listen to YouTube Music. YouTube, however, did not confirm how many users were affected by the technical issue.
Why several YouTube channels were deleted
The Google-owned platform reportedly sent emails to numerous users notifying them of account suspension due to alleged violations of YouTube’s “spam, deceptive practices, and scams policy.”
On October 3, YouTube acknowledged the issue and assured users that its teams are “actively working to restore channels” and restore access to paid services like YouTube TV, YouTube Premium, and YouTube Music. A day later, the company reported that it is working to restore all deleted channels.
“Update: Our teams continue working to restore all removed channels and their access to paid subscriptions (YouTube TV, YouTube Premium, YouTube Music). We are very sorry for this mistake on our part and will follow up here when it is finished. If your channel was deleted and reset incorrectly, you may notice that some content, such as playlists, is missing. Don’t worry: this is just a delay and all your content will soon be restored. Thanks again for your patience in the meantime!
