Food delivery platform Zomato has introduced a new feature that allows customers to schedule their food orders up to two days in advance. This service is currently available in several major cities in India, marking a significant enhancement to the company’s offering.

According to Goyal, the service is initially available for orders over 1,000 in approximately 13,000 restaurants in Delhi NCR, Bangalore, BombayAhmedabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Jaipur.

In his announcement, Goyal said, “Update: You can now schedule orders on Zomato. Plan your meals better by placing an order up to 2 days in advance and we will deliver it to you just in time. For now, scheduling is available for orders more than 2 days in advance. 1,000, across around 13,000 outlets in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Jaipur.”

The CEO also indicated that there are plans to expand this feature, mentioning that it will eventually be available for all orders, regardless of value. Additionally, Zomato aims to increase the number of participating restaurants and cities in the future.

“These restaurants historically have large quantities of dishes in stock and have demonstrated consistency in kitchen prep time. More restaurants and cities are being added. We will soon expand this to all orders,” Goyal added.

This new programming option comes shortly after Zomato has discontinued its intercity delivery service Legends. The introduction of order scheduling demonstrates the company’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve its service offering in the competitive food delivery market.

Skepticism among Internet users

“What if restaurants prepare the order on the spot and keep it in the refrigerator until the delivery schedule and then microwave or reheat it before shipping?” one user noted.

“Is scheduling so necessary and important? Let’s say someone wants to place an order for a small meeting, their preferences can change in two days,” another posted.
